When to Choose Each Dumpster Type
Both dumpster types have their place. The right choice depends on surface conditions, project size, debris type, and how much material you expect to load.
Choose a Rubber-Tired Dumpster When:
- You want a more driveway-friendly option
- Your project is residential and mid-size or smaller
- You are cleaning out a garage, basement, attic, or shed
- You are doing a smaller remodel or lighter demolition
- You want a dumpster that fits better in tighter residential spaces
Choose a Roll-Off Dumpster When:
- You need larger debris volume
- You are replacing a roof or doing a major remodel
- You have bulky junk, heavy cleanup, or large loads
- You are handling an estate cleanout or large property cleanup
- You need a 20, 30, or 40 yard dumpster size

Dumpster Type FAQ
Below are common questions about dumpster types, driveway placement, surface protection, and choosing the right dumpster for your project.
Are Rubber-Tired Dumpsters the same as Roll-Off Dumpsters?
No. Roll-Off Dumpsters are placed using rear rollers and sit directly on the ground. Rubber-Tired Dumpsters sit on four full-size tires and roll into place like a vehicle, helping reduce dragging during placement.
Do Roll-Off Dumpsters damage driveways?
Roll-Off Dumpsters are designed for job sites and hard surfaces. When placed on residential driveways, surface protection such as plywood is commonly recommended depending on surface condition and load.
Why do some dumpsters say “rubber” but still need plywood?
Some Roll-Off Dumpsters use rubber-coated rollers, but they are still delivered by rolling the container off the truck into position. That differs from a true Rubber-Tired Dumpster that rests on four tires.
Which dumpster is better for residential use?
Rubber-Tired Dumpsters are generally preferred for residential driveways because they roll into place and rest on tires. Roll-Off Dumpsters are typically chosen for larger volumes and heavier construction or demolition debris.
Do you offer both dumpster types in the St. Louis metro area?
Yes. 2 DUMP IT® provides both Rubber-Tired Dumpsters and Roll-Off Dumpsters serving St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and St. Louis City, with select nearby service.
What affects dumpster pricing and weight limits?
Pricing depends on dumpster size, rental duration, material type, total weight, delivery location, and disposal fees. Disposal overages may apply if total weight exceeds included limits.
